Article Notes:

Toronto Maple Leaf’s starting goalkeeper, Frederick Andersen, acknowledges the challenges of playing under a microscope and the life pressures of being a professional athlete.  He speaks of the importance of having Dr. Popovic, director of athlete well-being and performance, available as a sounding board.  She was brought on by the Leaf’s general manager Kyle Dubas based on his belief that the support of both athlete and staff mental health is critical for anyone’s talent to matter.
